CUPRA is the newest brand of the Volkswagen
Group and is best-known as the electric performance and contemporary designed car brand from Barcelona . The name ‘ CUPRA ’ owes its origins to its successful involvement in motorsport and stands for ‘ Cup Racing ’. CUPRA brought its range of performance vehicles to Australia last July 2022 , with the release of the CUPRA Formentor crossover SUV , the CUPRA Ateca SUV and the CUPRA Leon hatchback . These models have been followed this year by the all-electric CUPRA Born .
Boasting both style and substance , the new CUPRA Born provides the perfect match between electrification and performance , leading the brand ’ s expansion and roadmap to becoming a fully electrified brand by 2030 . According to CUPRA Australia brand director Ben Wilks : “ The CUPRA Born offers Australians an affordable , yet stylish EV option , and will appeal to those who not only like to stand out from the crowd , but are mindful of the footprint they leave in their purchasing decisions ”.
Designed and developed in Barcelona , the new CUPRA Born provides up to 511 KMs of range from a single charge . A 77kWh ( 82kWh ) net battery means the Born can deliver up to 170kW of power and 0-50KM in just 2.8 . The creation of the CUPRA Born also involved a partnership with the SEAQUAL ® INITIATIVE , the collaborative community fighting plastics pollution , to manufacture the standard production of the vehicle ’ s seats with unconventional materials made from upcycled marine plastics – a testament to the company ’ s commitment to beautifully blending sustainability , innovation and contemporary design .
