RUSH V ST ANDREWS PROG 16/1/14 07:24 Page 5 from the CHAIRMAN GOOD AFTERNOON AND WELCOME TO THE DOG & DUCK FOR THE VISIT OF ST ANDREWS FC IN THE FA CARLSBERG VASE FOURTH ROUND. I would like to wish a very warm welcome to all visiting players, officials and supporters today and I know that they will be made to feel welcome everyone here at AFC Rushden & Diamonds. It’s fantastic still to be in the Vase in January and after losing out to Ashington just before Christmas last season, this year’s turkey certainly tasted slightly better knowing that we had this game to look forward to in the New Year. Of course, a yuletide sense of satisfaction is not the only prize for reaching this stage of the competition as both ourselves and St Andrews will be eligible for exemption to the second round proper of next year’s Vase. Such an exemption would certainly have helped us to alleviate a little fixture congestion this year - today’s game will be club’s 39th competitive match of the season - however that is definitely not something which I am complaining about, although I’m sure players and volunteers alike will tell you that they wouldn’t have minded the odd Tuesday off! Speaking of volunteers, we owe a tremendous debt of thanks to everyone who has worked so hard on the pitch get our last three games on and who will doubtless be putting in even more effort ahead of today’s match. “Of course, a yuletide sense of satisfaction is not the only prize for reaching this stage of the competition as both ourselves and St Andrews will be eligible for exemption to the second round proper of next year’s Vase.” with people down at the ground from early in the morning spreading an estimated 10 tons of sand in order to ensure that the game went ahead. I’d like to say a personal thank you to everyone who has been involved in this work and
