Mens fashion has changed numerous times over the years. In
the 1930’s mens fashion started with slicked back hair, double
breasted suits, full cut trousers, tuxedos, and when shirtless
bathing suits began. A lot of men wore suits in this era to keep
up with the look of professionalism and to show their status in
that time. The topless bathing had just begun. Bathing suits us
to be like shirts and shorts. The bathing suits were heavy and
fully covered the body to keep everyone modest. When the
years changed they limited the amount of clothing that would
cover the body, thus began the topless bathing suit for men.
In the 1940’s things changed again and the double breasted
suit was no longer in in the 40’s the suits were more baggy
and loose. The suits were still of style and professionalism but
became more causal and comfortable than the suit before it.
Also in this time, pleats became part of fashion and gave a new
sense of style to slacks and how they were worn. Tuxedo’s were
still in but again the fabric was looser and more comfortable
than the double breasted tuxedo that fit more to the form in
the 30’s.
In the 1950’s more wild prints came into the
scene (hawaiin shirts, madras, and prints) to
be more precise. Also the suit was back to thin
fitting and more conservative. In this era a lot
of smoking and drinking was prominent in the
work place so pockets were part of the suit to
carry smokes, and napkins.
