coach at San Marin. I neglected
to include my name, although he
figured it out.
As individual images, these
pictures might be discards, but I
also knew when I was shooting
the games, that I was covering
something bigger... something
that would last beyond a year.
Is there a way that high school
programs can capture important
events? Now that we can collect
and save images, is there a way
that we can create a yearbook for
the future? How can we do this
and support the student press?
How can we inspire students
without unjustly influencing
students’ decisions?
When I see the simple locker
room image with the David Bowie
quotation, I wonder if we are
thinking big enough. With Bowie
dying this year, his quotation feels
especially small for him.
“We could be heroes, just for one
day.”
I knew that the members of the
San Marin community were heroes
five years into the future. I knew
that the coaches had influenced
the players. The players had
inspired children and adults. The
fans had been heroic, in victory
and defeat.
How do we capture news when
it isn’t new or when it is in the
future?
