P
ark Spanish teacher Joy Esboldt finished running the
Boston Marathon shortly before the bombs exploded.
At the time of the explosion, Esboldt was being treated
in the medical tent, only a block away and watched as
medics wheeled in blast victims. The Echo covered
this story because the incident at the Boston Marathon
directly affected members of the Park Community, both in
St. Louis Park and in Boston at the time of the explosions.
The article was also meant to report Esboldt’s story as
most students were not aware she was in Boston at the
time. In addition, after experiencing a number of deaths in
the Park community recently, the impact of the bombings
especially resonated among staff and students.
