rittany Embree made her
photograph covering the
Women’s College World
Series for the Red Dirt Journal
published by the Oklahoma
Institute for Diversity in
Journalism. The picture shows a
freshman University of Oklahoma
right-fielder chasing a pop fly in
Game 3 in Oklahoma City.
Ray Chavez, workshop director,
wrote of Brittany, “Her patience
was tested in the championship
game because of an extended
rain delay, but her diligence paid

drama of the series.”
Brittany described her
experience this way: “A year from
now when I am a sports journalist
for the OU Daily, I will remember
everything I’ve learned from my
week at OIDJ. Even though I
hope I will retain my feelings for
the players and their hard work,
it will be etched in my brain that
the story and the photo are my
top priorities, whether we win or
lose.”
