Update photo by Ike Lea
More than 400 students, faculty and staff gather the last morning of the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association Summer Journalism Workshop to
take one big group photo. Cheryl Pell, MIPA director, said the shot was in part to celebrate the final workshop with Betsy Pollard Rau as director. Rau, in
front with the hat, was the workshop director for 19 years. A former high school student of hers from the late ’80s, Chad Sanders, is her replacement,
and is standing next to Rau in the photo. Sanders has been the assistant workshop director for the past 10 years and teaches journalism at Everett HS
in Lansing. The new assistant director is Rod Satterthwaite, journalism teacher at Dexter HS.
