Advising mission: To help young
adults become people of empathy
and integrity who will lead, be
responsible, and change the world
for good. Motivate and empower!
Reasons for becoming adviser:
Well, since ESPN and the PGA
Tour never called ... for selfish
reasons. Advising allows me to
continue learning journalism and
be with kids all the time. The high
school journalism classroom
is unlike any classroom in the
school. The energy and buzz is
amazing. It is authentic learning at
its best.
Spends most time: I have two
families. One at home, and one
at my second home, KHS. That
equals all my time. If I could add
another hour to the day, I would.
Administrative support: I am
blessed to work in the Kirkwood
School District where scholastic
journalism is valued. From
district administrators to KHS
Principal Dr. Michael Havener, the
philosophy is to support student
journalism by letting students
practice and exercise their First
Amendments rights. KHS has
earned the Journalism Education
Association’s First Amendment
Press Freedom Award eight of the
past 10 years.
Advising allies: I am lucky to
be part of a great group of St.
