crisis intervention and cultural competency. Programs
are held at ArchCare facilities, provider locations and
other sites, and most are available on demand through
ArchCare’s online e-Learning system so workers can
access them on their own schedules. New courses will
be rolled out regularly and include certification training
for Home Health Aides, Certified Nursing Assistants and
Certified Case Managers.
ArchCare has also partnered with the Hartford Institute
for Geriatric Nursing at New York University’s Rory
Meyers College of Nursing to develop additional online
and classroom courses. In 2019, they look forward to
introducing a first-of-its-kind geriatric nurse residency
program that will provide advanced classroom and
practical training for recent nurse graduates who plan to
specialize in caring for older adults.
Employers may be reimbursed for the cost of replacing
their workers in order to allow them to attend training.
Caregivers may also be eligible for continuing education
credits to help them meet state licensure requirements.
“We’re repositioning long-term care workers for success
in the new value-based environment,” said Hugo Pizarro,
ArchCare’s senior vice president and chief experience
officer, who leads the WIO program with an experienced
team of learning and development experts. “Our goal is
for 4,000 individual trainees to complete an average of
2.5 courses by the end of the first year. Three months in,
we are already 40 percent of the way to that goal, and
we’re just picking up steam.”
