From the Editor’s Desk Dear Adventure & Wildlife Lovers, ADVENTURE & WILDLIFE ADVENTURE & WILDLIFE RNI No: KARENG/2016/69034 Vol 1|Issue 5-6|Nov 2016, Jan 2017 I sincerely thank each one of you in supporting our endeavour to bring out the Adventure & Wildlife magazine published bimonthly. According to census report by the Ministry of Environment for the year 2015, there are 406 tigers in Karnataka, out of which 221 are in Bandipur and Nagarahole Tiger Reserves. Editor & Publisher K R Narasimha Shastry (Simha Shastry) The new year has started on a very sad note, in less than 38 days, 7 Tigers have died to man animal conflict. I have been emphasising on this point that the shrinking region for the Tigers due to spurt in the population and encroachments are only going to increase the man-animal conflict which can get into a dangerous note and result in more deaths of these predators. A proper study and understanding of the Tiger territory and surrounding villages to be taken up with immediate effect and educate the human habitats around these territories to help them understand these predators and their needs of food and also engage the local communities and forest department officials in a meaningful dialogue and draw up a road map to overcome this crisis. I request you all to write in your views and ideas to us. Editorial Panel Akshay Kumar Nandakumar K S Shashidhar Ravi Shastri Avirat Shete The 7th All-India synchronised elephant census will begin in March 2017 and is expected to throw light on their migration patterns as wildlife biologists have identified at least half-a-dozen new places across the country where the animals have started moving.
