FINDING A SPOT
SETTING UP A TENT
PACKING & MAINTAINING TENTS
Before trekking it is really important that we know how to set up a tent without
reading instructions, so we are prepared for any circumstances. It can happen, that
conditions for setting a tent will not be very good. It can include bad weather
conditions, setting tent in dark, we may be tired after walk, hungry, cold .. For this is
necessary being able to assemble the tent in a short time and under any
circumstances.
But before setting up a tent itself, it is important to:
FIND A RIGHT SPOT:
find a WIDE and OPEN space, if you are in national park, make sure you are
camping in areas designed for camping.
Find a FLAT spot, ideal ground is flat and raised up compared to the
surrounding area, remove any rocks, twigs and other debris. Avoid setting up
your tent in hollows, swales etc. because this area will pool with water in the
event that it rains. YES! Also if your tent is waterproof.
Pay attention to the direction of the wind and position the side of the tent
with doors away from the prevailing wind, making it less likely to balloon and
create extra tension on the stakes.
o Try to use the natural tree line to create a windbreak if it's especially
windy. Move closer to the trees so they'll block off the breeze a little
bit.
o Avoid camping in dry river/creek beds in case flash flooding occurs and
avoid camping under trees, which can be dangerous in storms and can
drop branches without warning on your tent.
