Michigan
Great Lakes, here’s your chance! Just
north of Detroit, you’ll find people
launching their boats into Lake Saint
Clair. This little lake connects to Lake
Huron via the St. Clair River, and to Lake
Erie via the Detroit River. It is famous for
walleye, muskie, and smallies. While
smallmouths here are easy to catch and
abundant, the fun is in going after a
muskie. Troll at a decent speed (5-
10mph) and you’ll catch a fighter, no
doubt.
pro tip
Use large lures and spinners to catch a
trophy muskie.
If you come home with an actual trophy,
or just play the catch-and-release game,
you’ve still won, right? There’s no way
you’re coming out of these destinations
without feeling the burn. Whether you’re
reeling in smallmouths or docking with
a hundred pounds of whitefish, you just
simply can’t go wrong.
