Be sure to check regulations before testing unfamiliar waters with your own jet ski . You don ’ t want to reach your destination and find out that you aren ’ t complying with the rules of the area . Most states will require that all persons on the watercraft are wearing flotation devices and that the watercrafts are registered . Reckless driving is applicable to these personal watercrafts , so be courteous to others sharing the water around you , and never weave through other boats or people .
Another activity worth trying in the summer is sailing . The art of sailing is majestic in and of itself , and there is something exciting and yet calming about being on a sailboat in the open water . However , although sailing provides a platform for nostalgia , the boat must still succumb to the reality of the wind and waves . With this being said , it is very important that you do not just jump onto a sailboat without training and basic knowledge .
If it is your first time sailing , you will want to take a charter , where you can be guided and looked after by a trained sailor that will show you the ropes – literally ! Make sure you pack sunscreen and wear a hat , as you will be on the water all day . Sailing charters usually last for a full day , and luxury charters will include meals and drinks . If you ’ re taking a “ bareboat ” charter , be prepared to man the vessel yourself , as your boat will come with no captain or crew . In other words , you ’ re renting a sailboat and doing the rest yourself , which is not feasible for first-timers .
Once you learn how to steer through the sails and set up your own deck , you will be able to sail by yourself . If you ’ re looking for a smaller , more recreational sailboat , try a dinghy . With a dinghy , you will be able to learn the basics much better than if you were on a larger boat . Sailing can become quite addicting , as many beginners end up traveling the world in their sailboats after years of experience and technique-mastering .
Whether you ’ re wanting to take a charter into foreign waters or sail on the shoreline for practice , sailing takes dedication and strength , but is well worth it all once you hone your skills . Plan your next sailing charter by visiting the regulation site of your preferred area , and ask for recommendations via their outlets . Make sure you take a course on sailing if you plan on manning your own boat , and always practice safe sailing on open water .
