★★★ ★★ Deployment to Retirement 5 Way s to C ar e for Se rvi c e M e mb er s Our military branches are always ready to stand guard and protect us as a nation. We often take for granted all that they do, from investing time into training sessions and tours, to literally giving their lives for the sake of our freedom. If you would like to support our military members and show them that they are loved and appreciated, here are a few things you can do to show that you care. Volunteer Volunteering is a great way to help service members. As of 2016, just over 4% of all of our military veterans are out of work or retired and unemployed with no means of financial survival. While this is down from the recent near 6%, it is still a big number, and we should be doing what we can to help our service members find jobs and support systems in their local areas. These veterans mostly rely on tricky support from governmental and charitable organizations. While these programs can and do help a good portion of the unemployed members, they are not always able to do as much as they’d like for everyone. Most of these organizations, such as the ones that help in job placement, are solely run on volunteer time and community contributions, both in labor and financial aspects. Give back to your local com- munity organization that handles job placement and veteran benefits, and volunteer your time. They may have you sorting through applications and open position files, or they may simply ask you to stamp all of the outgoing mail. No volunteer position is unimportant or too small to provide your services, especially when you’re serving those who have protected your freedom and your rights.
