The Legend of Robin Hood
Countless books, films, ballads, and
cartoons pay tribute to the legend of
Sherwood Forest’s merriest outlaw—
Robin Hood. Did a real outlaw inspire
these tales? Was Prince John really that
evil? What about the gang—Little John,
Will Scarlet, Maid Marian, Friar Tuck,
and Alan-a-Dale? Come learn about
the legend of the brave man who fights
injustice with his band of companions.

Recent Archaeological
Discoveries in Egypt
Perhaps no other civilization has so
thoroughly captured the interest of the
western world as that of ancient Egypt.
This ancient land became known as
the world’s leader in art/architecture,
science/industry, and religion/philosophy.
For 150 years, the rediscovery of ancient
Egypt has continued at a record pace.
Recent developments have shed further
light on this ancient land of wonder
and mystery. Neither the Arab Spring
nor global pandemic has put an end to
the process; although both slowed it
considerably. Beloved Adult Academy
instructor Stephen Derfler joins us live
online from Florida. Note: in person
participants will watch the online
presentation together on a large screen
at Gladstone. Steven Derfler, Ph.D.

The Vikings and Danelaw
Invading Danish armies colonized
northern and eastern England and by the
ninth century this area was under control
of the Vikings. By the eleventh century
the term Danelaw expanded to mean not
only the geographical location, but a set
of laws created by various treaties. What
is this system of laws? Do any still exist?
Why is this period of Viking presence on
the Isle of Britannia sometimes called The
Dark Ages? Terry Kubista

Roman Britain
The Romans had their sights on adding
Britain to their ever-expanding empire.
When they arrived in approximately
AD43, Britain was primarily comprised
of small agrarian communities. Under
Roman influence, cities were eventually
established using a core layout and
organization that still can be found today.
Explore these elements in Bath, York and
even Londinium, now known as London.
