Practical Workshops at The Wilson offer the opportunity to develop artistic skills from an experienced teaching artist in a friendly and informal setting. Perfect for absolute beginners, improvers and artists looking to develop their practice.

Running over several sessions and allowing for greater depth, these courses are perfect for those with some existing interest or experience in a subject, but cater for absolute beginners too. Great for those seeking CPD, or to expand their artistic practice.

WORKSHOPS

INTRODUCTION TO PRINTING
SATURDAY 18 FEBRUARY 10AM – 4PM £ 60 /£ 55 CONC.
Learn the essential skills for successful lino cutting; produce prints for stylish cards and tags in this one day workshop with artist Beth Jenkins. Best for beginners and improvers. Materials supplied.
EXPLORING ABSTRACTION: A PRACTICAL DAY SCHOOL WITH PAINTER NICK MOORE
SATURDAY 25 FEBRUARY 10AM – 4PM £ 45 /£ 35 CONC.
This one day course will take a focused look at abstract painting both theoretically and practically. A hands-on painting workshop will explore the richness and versatility of the genre in various media including acrylic paint and ink. Best for beginners and improvers. Materials supplied.
FABRIC PRINTING

Be inspired by our current exhibition Pop Art in Print and develop the skills to design, cut and print onto fabric in this 1 day course with artist Kerry Day. Best for beginners and improvers. Materials supplied.
PAINTING CLUB

Join our monthly painting club to explore new painting and drawing techniques. With a friendly and professional tutor on hand, this club will support the development of your artistic practice. Bring your own materials and workin-progress if you wish.
OBSERVATIONAL DRAWING: A SIX WEEK COURSE
THURSDAYS. 26 JANUARY, 2 FEBRUARY, 9 FEBRUARY, 23 FEBRUARY, 2 MARCH, 9 MARCH 6.00 – 8.00PM £ 180 / 165 CONC.
Led by professional artist Claire Billingsley, this six week course, will advance your drawing skills. Using a range of natural specimens as your subject-matter, you will work in a range of media, including pencil, pen, pastels and charcoal. Bring your own materials.
PRINTMAKING: A SIX WEEK COURSE
TUESDAYS. 21 MARCH, 28 MARCH, 4 APRIL, 25 APRIL, 2 MAY, 9 MAY 10.00AM – 12:30PM £ 180 / 165 CONC.
Learn to print with this six week course. Teaching artist Beth Jenkins will introduce you to a number of techniques including registration, reduction and multi block printing to make successful lino prints in colour and black and white. Best for beginners and improvers. Materials supplied.
PORTRAITS IN POTTERY: A SIX WEEK CERAMICS COURSE
TUESDAYS. 14 MARCH, 21 MARCH, 28 MARCH, 4 APRIL, 25 APRIL, 2 MAY 1.30 – 4.30PM £ 200 /£ 175 CONC.
Develop your ceramic skills with a six week course creating Andy Warhol inspired ceramic portraits. This course will include observational drawing, construction in clay, glazing and much more with artist Claire Billingsley. Best for beginners and improvers. Materials supplied.
