Using the Tab Ruler
All TLF text boxes that you place on the Stage include a ruler at their top edges.
The ruler measures the left and right margins and indents, as well as tab stops. To
view the ruler, double-click a TLF text box or select the Text tool and click in a TLF
text box to begin editing. You can toggle to view or to hide the ruler by choosing
Text > TLF Tab Ruler.
Next, you’ll use the TLF Tab Ruler to modify margins, indents, and tab stops.
1 Double-click the text box if it isn’t already selected.
The TLF Tab Ruler is displayed at the top edge of the text box, above either the
left or the right column, depending on where your mouse cursor is positioned.
The TLF Tab Ruler measurements are in pixels.
2 Drag the left margin indicator (solid black triangle) along the TLF Tab Ruler.
The margins for the text increase. The margins are determined for each
paragraph. If there were paragraph breaks in your text box, you’d see the margin
for only the selected paragraph change.
P Note: If you have
multiple paragraphs
and you want to change
the margins for the
entire contents of the
text box, choose Edit >
Select All, or use the
mouse to first select all
the text before moving
the margin indicator.
Notice how the margin values change in the Properties inspector as well. Move
the margin indicator back to its original position after you finish exploring how
it works.
3 You can split the left margin indicator to establish the indent amount for the
first line of new paragraphs. To see the indents, press the Return or Enter key to
create a few new paragraphs in the text.
4 Click inside the TLF Tab Ruler.
Flash creates a tab stop.
