Adaptations: The Central California Adaptive Sports Center Newsletter 3 | Page 7

HEY PARTNER, SADDLE UP WITH US!
CCASC now offers horseback riding to participants with disabilities.
Thanks to the generosity of local ranch owners, Julie and Gary Winter, CCASC provided riding programs this past summer. Julie donates her time and expertise as our lead instructor and provides the truck and sixhorse transport trailer.
Our horseback program includes lessons in how to care for and ride the Winters’ six beautiful, well-trained“ polo ponies.”
Many of our participants have told us the therapeutic value of horseback riding has added a new dimension to their experience with CCASC.
All horseback programs take place on mountain trails in the Shaver Lake area. As with all of our programs, we invite the participation of family and friends.
Please contact us for more information and to make a reservation for the 2017 summer season. We are planning to offer 4 horse programs, one each month, in June, July, August and September. They are popular and all filled in 2016, so make your reservation early.
CCASC also offers many other adaptive sports opportunities in the summer, featuring day and weekendlong programs including kayaking, mountain-biking, fly-fishing, rockclimbing, camping, and hiking.
Southern California Edison generously designated a secluded area on Shaver Lake for CCASC’ s use, facilitated CCASC’ s use of Balsam Forebay for fly-fishing and kayaking, and allowed access to a fantastic mountain bike trail where participants can ride CCASC’ s fleet of adaptive cross-country mountain bikes. We have also set up several climbing routes on a granite wall accessible from Shaver Lake by kayak.
