Different sexual preferences, different names. Recently the term“ Bud Sex” has become a trend online. This new word refers to males who have intimate sexual relations with other men, without considering themselves bisexual or gay. Most have relationships with women and feelings for them but, at the same time, they enjoy having sex with men. Not sentimental relationships; without loving them, without emotions. Just for pleasure.

This term started after a recent study for the University of Oregon in America. The research found that the subjects studied considered themselves heterosexuals and, in most of the cases, were married and had children. However, they admitted to having had sporadic sexual relations with men just to satisfy primary instincts. In fact, in Greek mythology Zeus, King of the Olymp, was supposed to have had sex with men whilst being married to Hera. Is this then something not new at all?
Another study published by Archivos de Comportamiento Sexual added that around 20 % of heterosexual men watch gay porn. Has this anything to do with“ Bud Sex”? Is it possible that some men just feel attracted to the same sex without being considered gay? Bud Sex men are distinguished from those who are gay or bisexual because they practise this type of sex sporadically. At the same time, they emphasise that they are not gay, which has made some of the LGBT( Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) Community already consider these men“ homophobic homosexuals”.
Like many in the LGBT Community, some people see this as the men not accepting who they really are. Even so, it is still too early to know how it is going to be considered in the future. One thing is clear; for these budasexers, having homosexual sex and not being homosexual is now possible.
