For me, the positive changes have been a springboard for better health. With improved endurance, I’ ve added running to my fitness routine( sometimes even to and from the Center), and I’ ve tried new physical challenges. I even signed up to attend a“ women’ s football camp” at my alma mater, something I would never have done without newfound confidence and capabilities. I actually enjoyed the drills( at right) and outran some of the younger women!

This fall, thanks to such a promising start, the program expands under the fitting name balanced wellness. Its focus will remain on overall well-being through exercise, nutrition, personal goal-setting, and establishing healthy habits that go beyond a single class or program. But this time around, participants will also receive one-on-one goal setting and wellness coaching weekly throughout the 8-week sessions.
The new program will expand to focus on the needs of busy mothers, as well as teens and a broader range of adults. As instructor Allison Snyder plans for the fall, she reaffirms the initial focus that is core to success: " This is not just a workout or a diet, it is a lifestyle change. This is a wellness plan that will balance you in every aspect of your life!”
While some of the previous participants will continue with balanced wellness, others have branched out into Center activities including swimming, yoga, using the new equipment in the fitness center, and group classes. The varied Weinstein JCC offerings, including balanced wellness, clearly offer ample opportunity for members to maximize their health and fitness.
Sara sums up the role of the Weinstein JCC in creating a community that supports individual growth: " I have met so many new people that I enjoy seeing at various classes. We support and encourage each other to meet up at different fitness classes at the Center or for general moral support. I think it ' s a great example of the JCC ' s mission to fulfill the body, mind, and spirit."
