Once a Girl , Always a Boy A Conversation with author , parent and LGBTQ advocate , Jo Ivester Wednesday , February 10 at 7:30pm
As part of the ReelAbilities Diversity and Inclusion Festival , the Weinstein JCC is pleased to host author , speaker and LGBTQ activist , Jo Ivester who will present her book , Once a Girl , Always a Boy : A Family Memoir of a Transgender Journey . Jo tells the story of Jeremy ’ s journey from childhood through coming out as transgender and eventually emerging as an advocate for the transgender community . This is not only Jeremy ’ s story but also that of his family , told from multiple perspectives ― those of the siblings who struggled to understand the brother they once saw as a sister , and of the parents who ultimately joined him in the battle against discrimination . This is a story of acceptance in a world not quite ready to accept .
Behind-the Music Series The Lives of Isaac Stern

A centennial celebration of the career and legacy of the first made-in-America violin virtuoso and one of the twentieth century ’ s greatest musicians . Professional historian , author and lifelong amateur violinist , David Schoenbaum , will lead us on an exploration of Stern ’ s myriad of careers , not only as a musician , but also as an activist , public citizen chairman and cultural leader of the Jewish community . Learn about the musician and enjoy the music !
