President's Message
Dig out your snow boots and get ready for another fun-filled winter in
Glen Ellyn! We look forward to making this season a memorable one for you and your
family. Whether you’re interested in Pickleball, curling, dancing, nature walks, fitness
classes, special events, or the inaugural Christmas Sweater Shuffle 5k, we have it all.
Look through the Activity Guide and start making your winter plans!
While the incredible Park District staff has been organizing another exciting season
of indoor and outdoor recreation opportunities, they have also been busy improving
Ackerman Park. When this project is completed there will be a new synthetic turf
field, a 1.4-mile walking/running path, an outdoor fitness area, and newly renovated
softball fields (including: new fencing, dugouts, shade structures, permeable pavers,
and overall better field conditions). All of these enhancements at Ackerman Park will
improve water drainage in these areas, allowing for fields that can be utilized more
often. In addition, Walnut Glen Park will be updated with new trees and a completely
new playground later this fall!
Snow and cold temperatures will inevitably be upon us, but with that comes
everyone’s two favorite winter activities: ice skating and sledding. Be sure to check
our website, www.gepark.org/weather, to see when conditions are favorable at Lake
Ellyn, Lake Foxcroft and Newton Park.
We hope to see you out and about in the coming months, enjoying all that the Park
District and our community offers. The Board of Commissioners is dedicated to
serving our community and, like many of you, we’re ready to start tackling new goals
in 2020!
Wishing you a safe and happy winter season,
Michael Ward
