Activity Guide Autumn 2018 | Page 2

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE As the newly appointed President of the Park District Board, it is my privilege to write my first introductory letter to the Autumn Activity Guide. ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Dave Harris, (630) 942-7255 SUPERINTENDENT OF FINANCE & PERSONNEL Nick Cinquegrani, (630) 942-7257 SUPERINTENDENT OF RECREATION Kathleen Esposito, (630) 942-7261 SUPERINTENDENT OF PARKS & PLANNING Dan Hopkins, (630) 942-7265 MARKETING SUPERVISOR Courtney O’Kray, (630) 942-7260 BOARD MEETINGS With another year’s Fourth of July in the books, it is exciting to begin thinking about the rest of the summer. I encourage everyone to enjoy Sunset Pool and the Splash Park at Maryknoll Park - they both offer people of all ages the opportunity to keep cool on the hottest days of July and August. Another favorite is miniature golf at Holes & Knolls. Last year, we replaced the carpet on the putting greens and we have already had more than 1000 rounds played in 2018. Of course, our parks offer huge amounts of open space and natural areas that are perfect for a picnic or a nature walk. In fact, over 20% of the Park District’s property has been returned to its natural state and provides all of us the opportunity to see native plants in their natural environment. As we enjoy the end of the summer, there are terrific events to look forward to in the fall. In the past few years, the Pumpkin Flotilla Fest has become a Glen Ellyn tradition. If you have never been to Lake Ellyn for that event, I encourage you to attend. It is great. The Glow in the Park Lantern Walk had its inaugural event last year and it was a sight to see. I look forward to attending again this year. On a personal note, I want to congratulate the Glen Ellyn Gators on another great season, and I’m counting the days until our Rage, Lakers, Golden Eagles, and other fall sports teams begin playing. It is wonderful to not only see kids enjoying our sports programs, but also the many Glen Ellyn families who participate with their children. Finally, I am excited to let you know that we will be kicking off two exciting projects. We will replace the playground at Main Street Recreation Center with brand new equipment in August. The Park District staff did a fantastic job selecting new equipment and I cannot wait until it is installed. Equally important, we are finally replacing the parking lot at Ackerman Sports and Fitness Center. The construction will cause several weeks of inconvenience in July/August, but the result will be well worth it. I sincerely hope the rest of your summer is safe and enjoyable. I hope to see you in our parks!
