CLASSIFICATION
We call each different type of animal a species. Colorado is a great state in
which to live! About 900 different species of wildlife live here. To better
understand wildlife, scientists have divided wildlife into groups. In Colorado,
we have 130 mammal species and 438 bird species. Over 150 species of
fish live in Colorado. Forty species are reptiles, which includes snakes,
lizards and turtles. Eighteen species are amphibians – including salaman-
ders, toads and frogs. The largest group of animals living in Colorado is
insects – you know, those animals with no backbones!
