Magic Weekend hasn’t been too kind to Wakefield Trinity in years gone by. The Yorkshire outfit has lost seven of their ten games on this one-off weekend, picking up just six points in the process.
They did, however, register a 25-24 victory over Catalans in last year’s Magic Weekend and head into their clash with Widnes Vikings as the 4/9 favourites.
The Chris Chester coached Trinity are enjoying a solid season and sit just a point behind reigning champions Wigan Warriors in what has been a positive season.
The one meeting between the two clubs so far this campaign ended in a 30-4 resounding Wakefield win. Can Widnes pull off the upset that their odds of 7/4 suggest is required?
Currently sitting bottom of the Betfred Super League, the Merseyside outfit has only managed two wins and need a dramatic upturn in performances to save their season.
The signing of Castleford Tigers half back Rangi Chase could well be that trigger. He leaves an outfit top of the league and Vikings head coach Denis Betts will be hoping he provides a much-needed winning mentality.
The Vikings’ recent record against Wakefield is actually impressive, winning five of the last seven meetings. Can they surprise us all up in Newcastle?
The odds would suggest not, but write nothing and nobody off on this Magic Weekend.

"There can only really be one man, and it is Wakefield’s Ben Jones Bishop (pictured). The former Leeds Rhinos man has managed ten tries in 11 appearances and is the man most likely to cross the line first"
