UFC, or Ultimate Fighting Championship, is an inhuman league of Mixed Martial Arts fighters punching, kicking, and grabbing each other to extreme points of discomfort. From deadly high kicks to devastating low punches, MMA fighters dish out pain that look like Superman would wince when hit. Fighters from all over the world, from Chris Weidman to Georges Saint-Pierre, compete to beat the daylights out of other fighters until one gets knocked unconscious, gives up, or has a severe injury that they cannot recover from. One of the most famous injuries in UFC history occurred just about five months ago, in a fight that nobody could forget.

December 28, 2013. Former middleweight champion Anderson Silva, from Brazil, has a rematch against undefeated Chris Weidman. The fight began with some hard punches and quick kicks, making each fighter look like they would break in half at any minute. Soon enough, that’s exactly what happened. In a flurry of hits, Anderson Silva’s deadly left foot swings about, into Weidman’s blocking right leg. Viewers could visibly see Silva’s foot distorting and twisting about Weidman’s lower leg. Silva fractured his tibia in several places, which is called a simple fracture, as it did not break the skin. Doctors reported that Silva got lucky, as a compound fracture, where the bone breaks the skin, would have exponentially increased his risk of infection and possibly led to an amputation
