Maud (Carrey Mulligan) is a working wife and a young mother. The working conditions in factories are very hard. She decides to join the Suffragettes, led by Emmeline Pankhurst who initially organised pacific demonstrations. But because of the silence of the government they start organizing more violent events in order to obtain real advances, thus risking their work and their family life to achieve their goal.
This is a rhythmical movie with protagonists with charming personalities who tell us about an important historical change. We are onvoved in the fight of these women to get more socila justice. Instructive and moving, the film is an opportunity to catch a glimpse at the past century on the equality between men and women and to question its evolution until today.
It is important to know more about yesteday's society to understand the world today, and this film is a good way to do so.
