Ben Gloppen presented testimony for School Board consideration .

COMMUNITY EDUCATION

Middle school athletics

Al Ickler , executive director of community and government relations ; Michelle Trelstad , executive director of community education and government relations ; and Kristin Keller , community education program supervisor , provided an update on the middle school athletics program . The presentation focused on four priority action steps intended to improve programming . Priorities include improving recruitment and development of coaches , increasing student voice in programming decisions , enriching programming and adding more “ non-traditional ” programs , and reducing barriers to participation and identifying areas of interest that could increase participation . As a result , the department has added new programming options such as boys volleyball , ultimate frisbee , archery , and table tennis .

ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION

Boundary timeline and process

Dr . Mary Wolverton , associate superintendent for elementary schools ; Becky Brodeur , associate superintendent for middle schools ; and Greg Cole , chief operations officer , provided an update to the School Board on the timeline and process for this fall ’ s boundary adjustments . Because areas of high growth are taking place in portions of the district , elementary school attendance boundary adjustments are needed to balance student enrollment across the district . These areas of high growth include Dayton , Champlin and Blaine attendance areas . Middle school boundary adjustments are needed in the Blaine attendance area , where there is an imbalance between Roosevelt Middle School and Northdale Middle School . These adjustments would still have students remain in the same cluster and attend the same high school as the current boundaries .

Community meetings will be held at each high school in September / October , and boundary presentations and updates will be provided at School Board meetings in those months . Boundary recommendations will be presented at the Nov . 7 School Board meeting , and consideration of the new attendance boundaries is expected at the Nov . 21 School Board meeting . Families will be informed of the final decision on boundaries in December . The boundary adjustments will take effect in the fall of 2023 .

FINANCE

Pay 2023 tax levy timeline

Michelle Vargas , chief financial officer , reviewed the calendar and action steps required for the School Board to adopt the 2023 property tax levy . The Board will take steps consistent with law and hold a public hearing on the tax levy on December 12 , 2022 .
