entrance exam, McGonigal said. In this region of the country the ACT is used. The state
contract with ACT mandates the test be administered on April 28, 2015.
The problem is that administration of the test complicates the school day for all grades in
all five high schools, McGonigal said. The ACT takes 4.5 hours to complete, and with the
nature of it being a timed assessment, there is no feasible way to provide lunch and a complete school day for all grades given the ACT schedule.
The plan would give all high school students except juniors a day off school April 28.
Juniors would attend school to take the ACT. The schools will offer learning opportunities
and activities for students who wish to come to school. Buses will run normal schedules.
The District’s Calendar Committee is aware of the need for the schedule change, McGonigal said. It w asn’t included in the current year’s calendar because the state didn’t approve
it until September, long after the calendar was approved.
The School Board will vote to approve the change at its next regular meeting in January.
Board accepts Indian Education Parent Committee Resolution
The board accepted the annual resolution of the Indian Education Parent Committee, which
states that the Indian Education Parent Committee concurs that the district’s educational
programs meet the needs of American Indian students. The resolution will be submitted to
the Minnesota Department of Education as required by state law.

Board approves sale of old Educational Service Center in Coon Rapids
Chuck Holden, chief operations officer, presented to the board a resolution authorizing the
sale of the district’s old Educational Service Center (ESC), 11299 Hanson, Blvd. NW, Coon
Rapids, for $2 million to Hmong Alliance Church.
Holden said the district has been looking to sell the property since Anoka-Hennepin relocated the 110 administrative staff working at the building to a new ESC location at 2727 N.
Ferry St., Anoka, in 2011.
One of the goals of selling the old building, Holden said, was to recoup $750,000 in expenses it took to remodel the new ESC and move into it. After closing costs, this sale will net the
district $1.9 million, he said.
The Hanson Boulevard location is still home to a vehicle storage building for the district,
but as part of the deal, Anoka-Hennepin will continue to use the facility rent-free for two
years. Eventually the district will need to find a new location for the facility.
The School Board unanimously approved the resolution.
Finance
2015 tax levy approved
The School Board unanimously approved the tax levy as presented earlier in the meeting
during the Truth in Taxation hearing. The levy, which is for property taxes payable in 2015
to fund the 2015-16 school year, will be sent to county auditors to establish tax rates. They
will apply those rates to each property and prepare final tax statements for mailing to property tax payers.
