Truth in Taxation public hearing Michelle Vargas, chief financial officer, presented a summary of the district’s budget and the local levy funding necessary to maintain service delivery as programmed. Vargas explained that state aid funds the majority of district operations at 74 percent of all revenue with local property taxes providing 19.39 percent. The detailed presentation met all requirements for Truth-in-Taxation as outlined in state law. The School Board then wel- comed questions and comment from community members. No testimony was received and the public hearing was closed by Chair Tom Heidemann. Recognitions STEP Jes Lipa, director of the Secondary Technical Education Program (STEP), and Ron Nelson, STEP community expert in emergency medical training, presented student Cody Tenold for special School Board recognition. Tenold, who is in the emergency medical technician program at STEP, took decisive action to provide emergency medical support to a Ramsey resident and family members involved in a car accident in November. Tenold’s quick action and decision making prevented serious harm to the family involved in the crash. Anoka High School Anoka High School (AHS) senior Ana Birklid took second place in the 500 meter freestyle and freshman Re- ese Dehen took second place in the 100 meter breastroke at the Minnesota State High School League State Swimming and Diving Meet Nov. 16-18 held at the University of Minnesota Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. The swimmers were part of five events that set AHS school records. John Jacobson is AHS swimming and diving head coach. AHS seniors Emma Beck, Emily Smith, Kjersten Jones, Jenna Oullette, Cullen Heckman, and Benjamin Lock- wood have been named to the All-State Choir. Over 900 student musicians auditioned for the choir from across the state. Michelle Hayes is choral director at AHS. Kelsey Bartges was recognized for champion finishes in state competitions. Bartges captured first-place in the spring trap shooting competition in the spring season and the championship in Skeet shooting in the fall Min- nesota state tournament. AHS seniors Jack Weaver and Emily Fisher have been named to the All-State Band. Tim Hauser is band director at AHS. 1
