Four priorities were presented for consideration including policy issues with special education, maintaining the current tiered licensure structure for teachers, eliminating the requirement linking a percentage of compensatory revenue to extended day programming, and providing sustainable funding through the safe schools levy to support school safety officers and support for student mental health and chemical health challenges. The priorities will return for approval at a future meeting.  Elementary and secondary education Secondary math materials recommendation Dr. Eric Melbye, associate superintendent for middle schools and student services, and Dr. Timothy Gadson III, associate superintendent for high schools, led an overview of a recommendation for new math curriculum for secondary students.  If approved, the recommendation will align secondary and elementary math curriculum and would be in schools for the 2020- 21 school year. The recommendation will be considered for approval by the School Board at a future meeting.  High school external facilities update and recommendation Greg Cole, chief operations officer, Steve Anderson, director of building and grounds, and Jacob Morgan, building and grounds supervisor, presented an overview of a proposal to add synthetic turf fields to district stadiums and one synthetic turf practice field at each high school. District programs are impacted by inconsistent field quality for fall and spring sports, particularly with the impact of lacrosse. Anoka-Hennepin has increased field maintenance over the past two years to address field conditions while the School Board authorized a strategic priority to pursue the addition of synthetic turf as a possibility.  The program would add the stadium fields in 2021 and the practice fields in 2022. The recommendation was approved on a unanimous vote.  General Counsel Approval of contract for Anoka-Hennepin Elementary and Secondary Principals Association Paul Cady, general counsel, presented a working agreement for 2019-2021 with the Anoka-Hennepin Elementary and Secondary Principals Association for board consideration.
