Foundational work for improved grading and progress reporting Dr. Eric Melbye, associate superintendent for middle schools and student services, Dr. Timothy Gadson III, associate superintendent for high schools, and Kim Pavlovich, director of secondary curriculum, presented an overview regarding a move to standards-based grading or reporting, work which will continue to transition over the next several years. The effort is geared to improve academic performance for students while preserving the traditional grading system used on high school transcripts. Bilingual/multilingual seal update The Anoka-Hennepin School Board approved a program for students to receive college credit and recognition in world language excellence through the awarding of a bilingual/multicultural seal on diplomas. Dr. Timothy Gadson III, associate superintendent for high schools, and Kim Pavlovich, director of secondary curriculum, provided an overview of the impact provided to students in the first year. Pavlovich explained that 132 students participated in the program earning 1,416 total credits. If all credits were applied to college programs, students would save $351,516.48 in tuition.   Finance FY21 Budget reductions update Michelle Vargas, chief financial officer, presented a planned update regarding planning for the 2020-21 district budget. The School Board set parameters and a timeline to review options to address a projected $5 million deficit in August. Vargas reviewed updated expenditures and revenue projections and presented a recommendation to identify reductions in central office salaries, contracts and supply budgets to address the situation. The School Board is expected to consider approval of a budget reduction plan at their Jan. 27, 2020 meeting.  Consent agenda All items were approved as presented. A.
