Meeting Date: Oct. 27, 2014 Board Chair Tom Heidemann ACTION of the School School District Board Anoka-Hennepin Recognitions The School Board recognized the following students and staff: Andover High School Vice Chair Marci Anderson • Principal Becky Brodeur introduced technology education teachers Frank Kratochvill, Mike Hecker and Dale Johnson. Their outstanding work led to Andover High School being recognized with the Minnesota Technology Education Association Program of Excellence award in October. Anoka High School • The School Board recognized the Anoka High School Grade 9 and 10 boys lacrosse team for winning the Minnesota State Boys Lacrosse Association championship last spring. The team was coached by Andrew Heidemann and Wade Grabow. Blaine High School Clerk Dr. Scott Wenzel • The School Board recognized German exchange students and their host families at Baine High School. Elementary schools recognized for outstanding work Treasurer Jeff Simon Director • Associate Superintendent Mary Wolverton introduced principals and staff representatives from a number of schools for achieving exceptional results in the state’s Multiple Measures Rating (MMR) system, which assigns a range of designations to schools that receive federal Title funds for having high percentages of students in poverty. • Evergreen Park was recognized for substantial improvement that resulted in the school coming off the Focus designation list. • Mississippi and Hamilton were recognized for being designated as Celebration Eligible Schools. They have the opportunity to vie for Celebration School awards, which will be announced later in the year. Their MMR rating fell in the top 60 to 84 percent of Title schools. • Schools recognized for Reward status were Adams, Eisenhower, Hoover, Jefferson, Lincoln, Madison, Monroe and Wilson. These schools scored in the top 15 percent of Title schools in the state. Bill Harvey Communications, delegations and petitions Patrick L. Anderson said he has read and listened to a lot of information on bullying and he presented advice on simple truths that he believes will allow schools to heal. Director William Fields Jeffrey Cosmen expressed concern over how schools are teaching about global warming. He asked that schools present both sides of the issue to give students a well-rounded education and he volunteered to help teach the topic. Elementary and secondary education Annual Oct. 1 enrollment report presented ANOKA-HENNEPIN SCHOOLS A future without limit The School Board heard an overview of the Oct. 1 enrollment report, which showed a decline of 168 students in regular kindergarten through grade 12 from Oct. 1, 2013. Enrollment for regular K-12, alternative day and special education students is 37,129. Enrollment for early childhood special education students is 731, bringing Anoka-Hennepin’s enrollment to 37,860.
