Operations
Management Plan for Testing for Lead in the Water
Chuck Holden, chief operations officer, presented the Anoka-Hennepin Management Plan for Testing for Lead in the
Water for board approval. The 2017 Minnesota Legislature required districts to test for lead in the water every five years
and also includes community notification procedures. Anoka-Hennepin completed water quality testing in March 2018
and identified 79 of 1,981 locations that were either replaced or removed from service. Anoka-Hennepin has conducted
an extensive water testing and mitigation program since the 1990’s. The plan was approved by the School Board on an
unanimous vote.
Elementary and Secondary Education
Naming of New Elementary Schools
Dr. Mary Wolverton, associate superintendent for elementary schools, led a presentation regarding the naming of new
elementary schools under construction in Blaine and Ramsey. A community driven process included over 360 name
suggestions, which were reviewed and prioritized by committees for each school. The School Board selected Sunrise
Elementary School for the new school in Blaine and Brookside Elementary School in Ramsey. Names were approved on
separate motions, with both names gaining approval on a unanimous vote.
Resolution supporting Form A application to the Minnesota State High School League Foundation
The Minnesota State High School League Foundation provides grant funding for member districts to offset student
activity fees to promote participation in co-curricular activities. Superintendent David Law introduced a resolution to
support the application, which was approved by the School Board on a unanimous vote.
Achieving Academic Excellence
Dr. Johnna Rohmer-Hirt, director of research, evaluation and testing, provided a report regarding academic performance
and perception data of students in the Anoka-Hennepin School District. The School Board reviewed both performance
and comparative results on Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs), ACT college readiness tests, participation
in college-level courses, graduation rates, dropout rates, continuation rates, achievement gap closures, student
perception data, and college and career planning.
Secondary Math Plan
Dr. Timothy Gadson, associate superintendent for high schools and Cory McIntyre, associate superintendent for middle
schools and student services, provided an overview of new resources available to support improved student outcomes
in mathematics. An investment in curriculum support from the School Board has resulted in the development of a web
resource containing consistent, high-quality materials for both students and parents/guardians to build capacity in
math. The new system allows parents to view the resources and support their student in learning math concepts.
