The agenda for the first School Board meeting in January also serves as an organizational meeting. The board selects
officers and receives appointments for committee assignments along with conducting annual business functions.

The School Board selected Tom Heidemann to serve as chair, Marci Anderson as vice-chair, Bill Harvey to serve as
treasurer and Jeff Simon to serve as clerk. Board leadership positions remain unchanged from 2018.

Communications, delegations and petitions
The School Board did not receive any communications, delegations or petitions.
Elementary and secondary education
Resolution of School Board supporting Form B Application for MSHSL foundation funding
Dr. Timothy Gadson III, associate superintendent for high schools, presented a resolution for School Board consideration
that will provide grant funding to support student participation in cocurricular activities. The resolution was approved on
a unanimous vote.
Labor relations and benefits
2019 calendar
Nicole Tuescher, executive director of human resources and employee services, joined by Val Holthus, president of
Anoka-Hennepin Education Minnesota, proposed a modification to the calendar for the 2019-20 school year. The
requested action is to switch a staff development day from Wednesday, Oct. 16 to Tuesday, Nov. 5. Students would not
attend school on Election Day but would attend school on Oct. 16 through this proposal. The School Board will consider
approval at a future meeting.
Elementary and secondary education
School Within a School, exceptionally gifted
The Anoka-Hennepin School Board established a strategic priority to address services for highly gifted students, the
top one to two percentile, and additional programming for students in the top five to 10 percentile. At the elementary
level, this plan includes resources at the building level along with the creation of a school within a school program for
