Recognitions
The School Board recognized the following students and staff:
• Director of Communication and Public Relations Mary Olson recognized Kay Villella,
the assistant director of communication and public relations, who was recently named
to the National School Public Relations Association’s (NSPRA) group of 35 young
professionals under the age of 35. The group is made of communications professionals
from around the country who demonstrate leadership and excellence in their careers.
• School Board Treasurer Jeff Simon and Student Services Director Linda Anderson
recognized long-time district parent and volunteer DJ Reardon for his many years of
service to the district, which most recently included being a member of the Northwest
Suburban Integration School District’s (NWSISD) Community Collaboration Council.

• Andover High School Principal Becky Brodeur recognized this year’s State Fair art
winners. They were — third place: Callie Wurst; second place: Jordyn Wiley, Erica
Thelen, and Alyssa Johnson; first place: Megan Ritchie. Logan Rezac won the State
Fair’s Grand Sweepstakes in graphic design.
• Brodeur also recognized all of AndHS’ AP Scholars, scholars with honor and scholars
with distinction.

• Blaine High School Principal John Phelps recognized this year’s State Fair art winners.
They were — third place: Sarah Dudrey, Tom Shogren, Falicia Dallum and Mikayla
Foss; second place: Brad Fleek, Selena Garcia and Emma Schweiger; and first place:
China Eubanks and Sydney Yozamp.

• Champlin Park High School International Baccalaureate (IB) Coordinator Georgia
Larson recognized the school’s 2013-14 IB Diploma earners. They were Ahmed Bah,
Abby Carlson, William Croteau, Moshe Isaiah Davis, Kaitlin Halek, McKenna Hanson,
Andrew Holmstrom, Luckas Kielblock, Annalise Lamberty, Matthew Lolar, Natalie
Montgomery, Mark Musatau, Ainsley Peterson, Jackson Rohweder, Mitchell Rue, Ali
Sherbanenko, Joshua Slostad, Ian Watson, Kasden Watson and Alec Wieker.
Johnsville Elementary School

• Johnsville Elementary School’s Child Nutrition Program (CNP) was recognized by
Principal Scott Johnson and district CNP Director Noah Atlas for receiving a Minnesota
2014 E-Team Award from the Minnesota School Nutrition Association. “This team has
to be on their A-Game all day everyday,” Johnson said. “And they provide their service
every day with care and a smile.”
Communications, delegations and petitions
Melissa Thompson, Dot Belstler and Beth Hentges spoke in support of the recommendations found in the Anti-bullying / Anti-Harassment Task Force report, including recommendation three.

Jeff Asfahl said he appreciated the Task Force report, but found recommendation three to
be out of balance and unnecessary.
