Athletic Fields Update
Chuck Holden, chief operations officer, Steve Anderson, director of buildings and grounds, and Doug Bonar,
sites and grounds supervisor, presented information regarding maintenance strategies for district athletic fields
and comparative cost data to convert facilities to synthetic turf. The presentations included recommendations to
improve and maintain current facilities moving forward.
Equity/Minnesota Department of Human Rights update
Superintendent David Law provided an overview of action taken by the district and future plans addressing
inequities in several areas including academic performance, attendance, graduation, and student discipline
regarding students groups in the district. The School Board affirmed the district’s commitment to this work
and agreed to collaborate with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights (MDHR) including providing the
data requested, participate in work groups and work cooperatively with them regarding discipline issues, but
determined that an agreement proposed by MDHR was not necessary.
Student services update, mental health and health services review
Cory McIntyre, associate superintendent for middle schools and student services, introduced a review of annual
data regarding health services and mental health therapy services. Cyndy Hiltz, health services coordinator,
provided data regarding action taken by the 80 school nurses to protect the health of students and staff. Nita
Kumar, mental health consultant, provided measures of success in the work done to support mental health
needs of students. Kumar explained the level of therapists available in the district along with plans to add
services to support student needs.
Special education DCD setting IV facility naming
Cory McIntyre, associate superintendent for middle schools and student services, led a presentation outlining
key dates and actions necessary for the School Board to consider when naming an acquired facility for special
education students. Melissa Hayes, elementary special education director, and Stacey Dahlby, secondary
special education director, supported the presentation.
Ratifying TIES dissolution process
The School Board took action to ratify documents necessary to advance the dissolution of the TIES organization,
a technology consortium. Anoka-Hennepin, along with 44 other member school districts, have taken action to
dissolve the organization with an effective date of Sept. 1, 2018.
