Elementary and secondary education Chemical Health Advisory Committee Cory McIntyre, associate superintendent for middle schools and student services, and Dr. Jennifer Cherry, director of student services, were part of a presentation team that provided an update regarding achievements of the 2017-18 school year, and proposed action to be pursued by the Anoka-Hennepin chemical health advisory committee for the 2018-19 school year. Liz Burgard, parent involvement coordinator, Kjersten Anderson, regional prevention coordinator, and Rose McKinney, community leader, are committee members who joined the presentation team. Recommendations include adding students, parents/guardians and county representatives to the committee, continuing chemical health support groups at high schools, increasing communication efforts, maintaining the drug and alcohol series and pursuing the drug-free communities grant program. DMG staffing update The School Board reviewed and engaged in a dialogue regarding a second reading of a plan intended to allocate school administration to buildings based on uniform criteria, creating equitable student centered guidelines. The framework was developed in partnership with District Management Group (DMG), an independent, professional educational consulting firm that aims to assist districts achieve systemic improvements. The project goals are geared to analyze and make recommendations to address staffing inequities, role drift, overlap, staffing allocation procedures and alternate options to the current model. Data collection for this work began in April 2017 and has included feedback from 402 administrators at 18 different positions in all levels of the organization. The School Board discussed the proposal and approved a staffing model for operation in the 2018-19 school year. Finance FY 2019 tax Levy timeline Michelle Vargas, chief financial officer, presented a timeline of key dates and actions necessary to set the school district portion of the property tax levy for the year 2019. Minnesota law requires the school board to set local levies in December. The board will set a maximum tax levy in September and hold a public hearing on December 10 prior to approval.
