Chemical Health Advisory Committee
Cory McIntyre, associate superintendent for middle schools and student services, and Dr. Jennifer Cherry,
director of student services, were part of a presentation team that provided an update regarding achievements
of the 2017-18 school year, and proposed action to be pursued by the Anoka-Hennepin chemical health
advisory committee for the 2018-19 school year. Liz Burgard, parent involvement coordinator, Kjersten
Anderson, regional prevention coordinator, and Rose McKinney, community leader, are committee members
who joined the presentation team. Recommendations include adding students, parents/guardians and county
representatives to the committee, continuing chemical health support groups at high schools, increasing
communication efforts, maintaining the drug and alcohol series and pursuing the drug-free communities grant
program.
DMG staffing update
The School Board reviewed and engaged in a dialogue regarding a second reading of a plan intended to allocate
school administration to buildings based on uniform criteria, creating equitable student centered guidelines.
The framework was developed in partnership with District Management Group (DMG), an independent,
professional educational consulting firm that aims to assist districts achieve systemic improvements. The
project goals are geared to analyze and make recommendations to address staffing inequities, role drift,
overlap, staffing allocation procedures and alternate options to the current model. Data collection for this work
began in April 2017 and has included feedback from 402 administrators at 18 different positions in all levels of
the organization. The School Board discussed the proposal and approved a staffing model for operation in the
2018-19 school year.
Finance
FY 2019 tax Levy timeline
Michelle Vargas, chief financial officer, presented a timeline of key dates and actions necessary to set the
school district portion of the property tax levy for the year 2019. Minnesota law requires the school board to
set local levies in December. The board will set a maximum tax levy in September and hold a public hearing on
December 10 prior to approval.
