Communications, delegations and petitions The School Board received testimony from Rebeca Kottke. Elementary and secondary education Equity Achievement Plan, first reading The Anoka-Hennepin School Board reviewed progress on a districtwide plan to improve student outcomes for all students, with key strategies to eliminate predictable achievement gaps between student groups based on race. Work during the 2018-19 school year focused on collecting data through an equity context analysis process and creating a draft plan for implementation to be determined from the findings. A draft Equity Achievement Plan with a three-year timeline was shared for review and comment. The plan includes three proposed equity domains - school climate, student engagement and instruction and assessment - and eight action steps. The School Board will consider approval at a future meeting. Special Education Audit action plan update Dr. Eric Melbye, associate superintendent for middle schools and student services, and Stacey Dahlby, director of secondary special education presented an update regarding special education services in alignment with an audit of services. The report included results from year-one action steps and year-two implementation plans, along with staff feedback. Community engagement feedback The Anoka-Hennepin School Board is committed to using public feedback as part of a continuous improvement process for schools. Jim Skelly, director of communication and public relations, and Kay Villella, assistant director of communication and public relations presented feedback gained through a five-session community engagement series held during the 2018-19 school year, called “Community Conversations”. Over 100 community members from throughout the district provided ideas and suggestions to improve the quality of education and addressed strategies to mitigate key issues of concern. Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) resolution for membership Anoka-Hennepin schools are required annually to apply for MSHSL membership. This agenda item was continued to a future meeting. Community and government relations The School Board approved a resolution to establish Blaine City Hall as a polling location for 2019 in place of Way of the Lord Church which is no longer available for use as a polling location. The resolution ensures the district is in compliance with state statutes. The action covers elections held in 2019. 1
