ACTION OF MEETING RECAP I Board Chair Tom Heidemann Vice Chair Marci Anderson THE Treasurer Bill Harvey SCHOOL BOARD ISSUE 12, VOL. 09 Clerk Jeff Simon I Director William Fields 06/27/16 Director Nicole Hayes Recognitions STEP Automotive partnerships Jeff McGonigal, associate superintendent for high schools and Jes Lipa, director of the Secondary Technical Education Program (STEP), presented business and industry partners who stepped forward to assist students when a renovation project at Anoka Technical College removed access to the automotive repair instructional areas. Partners who worked collaboratively to provide real world, hands-on training for students included Luther Automotive Group, Morries Automotive Group, Minnesota Automotive Youth Education Systems, Minnesota Automobile Dealerships Association, and Suburu Midwest Training Center. Lipa commented that students made numerous connections and received industry relevant training. She added the some students moved immediately into employment and internships and that the partners are planning to continue the program into future years as a result of the success experienced. American Heart Association Fit-Friendly Worksite Innovation Award Anoka-Hennepin is the first Minnesota school district to earn the Platinum Level Workplace Innovation Award from the American Heart Association. Kristi O’Keefe from the American Heart Association presented the award that recognized performance criteria in three categories including physical activity, nutrition and workplace culture. O’Keefe lauded the district’s efforts to dramatically reduce costs for hospitalization over a three- year period and for innovative programs. Staff leaders Jennifer Gilbert, wellness specialist, and Jackie Nelson, insurance benefits supervisor received the award on behalf of the district and were also recognized for their leadership. Communications, delegations and petitions Deb Alto submitted a complaint and petition for School Board review. Employee services Resolution discontinuing and reducing educational programs and positions Sarah Kriewall, director of employee services, introduced a resolution relating to the termination and non-renewal of probationary teachers, a document that was approved on a unanimous vote. Substitute update Nicole Tuescher, executive director of human resources, Sara Kriewall, director of employee services, and Debbie Richter, a confidential employee services staff member, provided a detailed presentation regarding substitute teachers and paraeducators for the five-year period from 2011-12 to the current school year. Data shared included both the number and reasons for absences on an annual and daily average calculation. Results of a survey measured satisfaction with jobs and factors that led to interest in serving in a substitute role. Flexibility 1
