Jackson Middle School earns top status at St. Cloud State University math competition
Tom Hagerty, principal of Jackson Middle School (JMS), along with Belinda Eerdmans, math teacher at JMS, presented
17 JMS students that earned top placement at the St. Cloud (SCSU) math competition SCSU held on April 4. There were
a total of 1,759 students from grades 7 through 12 that participated, from 49 Minnesota schools. Nine JMS students
placed in the top five percent: seventh- graders Edin Nguyen, Garrison Finke, Gordon Nguyen, Addi Eernisse, and Jack
Schad; eighth-graders Tyler Korton, Yulia Horton, Jake Nord, and Shalina Singh. Eight JMS students placed in the top ten
percent: Oliver LeMay, grade seven; eighth-graders Noah Vetter, Benjamin Nelson, Owen Kluempke, Madeline Evenson,
Ben Degen, Nate Hulbert, and Madisen Albertus.
Jackson Middle School earns top status at St. Cloud State University math competition
Eric Lehtola, assistant principal and activities director at Andover High School (AndHS), recognized Mark Manney,
AndHS coach for being named the 2019 Minnesota Boys Hockey Coach of the Year.
Minnesota State High School League Triple ‘A’ Award
Tom Develice, assistant principal and activities director at Coon Rapids High School (CRHS), presented seniors Courtney
Killian and Logan Rotzien for each earning a Triple “A” Award for excelling both academically and in MSHSL-sponsored
athletic and fine arts activities. Other honored students include Anoka High School (AHS), seniors Lauren Bastian and
Jackson Hauge were recognized for being named Triple “A” nominees and Bastian was honored for being named both
the regional and the state Triple “A” Award winner. Bastian won both regional and state for excelling academically and in
MSHSL-sponsored athletic and fine arts activities. Andover High School, presented seniors Matthew Brodeur and Kelly
Lehtola for being named Triple “A” winners and noted Brodeur’s accomplishment as the regional Triple “A” Award winner.
Blaine High School (BHS), presented senior Stephanie Lewis and Champlin Park High School (CPHS), presented seniors
Izzy Ashburn and Bennett Otto as Triple “A’ winners.
Athena Award Winners
Alli Becker, AHS, Alexa Havon, AndHS, Sarah Olson, BHS, Izzy Ashburn, CPHS and Olivia Ellenbecker, CRHS were
recognized for being named Athena Award winners for their respective schools. The award honors the top female
athlete.
Anoka junior Reese Dehen wins state swimming title
Lance Wicks, assistant principal and activities director at AHS, along with John Jacobson, AHS coach, presented junior
Reese Dehen for being named State Champion in 200 Individual Medley Swimming. Dehen’s time in the event is in the
top eight finishes in state history.
Anoka Swimming named academic all-american
Lance Wicks, assistant principal and activities director at AHS, along with John Jacobson, AHS coach, presented
students that earned 2019 All-American Academic Swim Team status, which requires a grade point average in excess
of 3.75. Only the top two percent of all student athletes in the nation are able to achieve this honor. Honored Anoka
swimmers include junior Leah Granstrom; seniors Reese Dehen, Emily Fischer, Kasey McArdle, Brett Belknap, Lauren
Bastian, Madelyn Laehn, Jocelyn Raeker, and Mia Sabin.
