This designation is provided to schools that demonstrate high academic standards, school diversity, specialized curricula and instruction, family engagement and community partnerships. CPBA is one of 106 in the United States to achieve this honor. University Avenue Elementary School - Aerospace, Children’s Engineering and Science named a Magnet School of Excellence Dr. Mary Wolverton, associate superintendent for elementary schools, and Diedre Bloemers, principal along with Lucas Riesgraf, assistant principal, and Kate Watson, curriculum integrator, for University Avenue Elementary School - Aerospace, Children’s Engineering and Science (UAE) who achieved Magnet Schools of America School of Excellence status. This designation is provided to schools that demonstrate high academic standards, school diversity, specialized curricula and instruction, family engagement and community partnerships. UAE is one of 106 in the United States to achieve this honor. Eisenhower Elementary Stock Market Game achievement Lillian DeRung, principal and Nick Salmi, math teacher, presented high achieving fifth-grade students in the Stock Market Game (SMG). First place finishers include the team of Samiyah Gaffoor, Chase Olson and Karma Phuntsok. Second place honors were earned by the team of Claire Determan, Alishaba Israr and Elizabeth Hanson. SMG participants build and manage an investment portfolio in a real-world, dynamic way, developing skill in the fundamentals of personal finance and investing, while practicing content and skills in math, English Language Arts, economics, social studies, and other subjects. Jackson Middle School science teacher earns national environmental innovation award Tom Hagerty, principal of Jackson Middle School (JMS), introduced Sarah Garrett, JMS Science teacher, who is one of five teachers in the nation who achieved honorable mention status in the Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Jackson Middle School State Honors Choir Ruth Morgan, JMS music teacher, introduced eighth-grade student Maleah Anderson and seventh grade students Isaac Nelson, Matthew Heinen and Evelyn Kirkham who were named to the Minnesota State Honors Choir. Communications, delegations and petitions Dustin Reeder, Sarah Deutschman, Jen Chicos, Debra Musgrove, Kristina Kothrade and Michele Weitzel provided testimony for School Board consideration. 1
