Operations
Facilities condition index evaluation - update
The School Board is reviewing options to manage maintenance and improvement projects in district facilities. One
consideration is protecting the taxpayer investment in aging buildings and ensuring fairness in how funds are allocated.
Dave Maroney, vice president of ATS&R architects and engineers joined Greg Cole, chief operations officer, in outlining a
series of options for board consideration. The board will review and consider options for approval at a future meeting.
Finance
FY20 budget amendment
Michelle Vargas, chief financial officer, presented a revised budget for the current school year for board consideration. The
budget reflects additional revenue based on increased student enrollment, staffing decisions and updated projections
based on last year’s actual numbers and current year trends. If approved, the action would increase the unreserved fund
balance to 10.4% of expenditures. The board will consider approval at the Feb. 10 work session.
FY21 budget reductions
Michelle Vargas, chief financial officer, presented a recommended $1 million in budget reductions for the 2020-21 school
year. Recommended items include savings from software purchases, supply modifications and district level supplies, and
staff and vendor contract savings. Enrollment growth and effective budget management led to a reduced amount than
originally projected. The School Board approved the recommendation on a unanimous vote.
