K. Appointments by chair. Chair Anderson made appointments for representatives to various boards and committees for 2020. Communications, delegations and petitions The School Board did not receive any testimony. Finance Annual audit Aaron Nielsen, a certified public accountant with the accounting firm Malloy, Montague, Karnowski, Radosevich and Company (MMKR), reviewed the annual audit his firm conducted of the district’s financial statements for fiscal year 2019. The auditor gave the district an unmodified opinion on its basic financial statements, and said the district is in a strong financial position with an adequate fund balance and provided trend data along with current financial measures to provide context. No findings, material weaknesses or instances of noncompliance were reported. The analysis and report of district funds by an independent firm provides information for School Board consideration in financial planning and management of business affairs and compliance with legal requirements and mandates. Elementary and secondary education Minnesota Reading Corps Dr. Mary Wolverton, associate superintendent for elementary schools, Ranae Case Evenson, director of elementary curriculum, instruction and assessment, and Anne Stauffacher, elementary teaching and learning specialist, presented an update on the Minnesota Reading Corps program in Anoka-Hennepin. Trained tutors provide consistent one-on-one reading instruction for students in kindergarten through grade three. A corps of 30 tutors are serving 342 students during the current school year with over 90 percent exceeding growth targets. Portrait of a Graduate Dr. Joel VerDuin, chief technology and information officer, led a presentation that was supported by Michelle VanDenTop, director of technology and information services, Katie Bussey, technology facilitator, Lee Anne Clauer, teaching and learning specialist, and Kate Watson, curriculum integrator at University Avenue Elementary. The board heard an update regarding work on a “portrait of a graduate,” an effort to identify and support desired key qualities or traits for students who attend Anoka-Hennepin schools. Resolution of School Board supporting Form B application to the Minnesota State High School League Foundation Dr. Timothy Gadson, III, associate superintendent of high schools, presented a resolution to make students and the athletic and fine arts programs they participate in eligible for financial support from the Minnesota State High School League Foundation. The resolution was approved by the School Board on a unanimous vote. General Counsel Master agreement for kindergarten readiness teachers July 1, 2019 - June 30, 2022 Paul Cady, general counsel, presented a master agreement regarding terms and conditions of employment for kindergarten readiness teachers from July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2022.
