health textbook. World language selection criteria Dr. Cynthia Hays, chief academic officer, and Ellen Delaney, director of secondary curriculum, shared a recommendation on the process for choosing new world language instructional materials – from textbooks to interactive multimedia. Three evaluation forms were presented including student, parent/guardian and teacher versions that had all been reviewed and approved by the district’s Community Curriculum Advisory Committee (CCAC). The eva luations also reflect suggestions from the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Language (AMTFL) that world language curriculum and instructional materials should be structured less on vocabulary and grammar, and more on situations students may find themselves in when using a new language. The School Board unanimously approved the selection criteria and evaluation forms. The curriculum department will now more forward with their search for new world language instructional materials using the newly approved documents as guides.
