A few tips to help keep your camping experience stress free

If your host allows dogs, be sure to keep yours with you at all times. Some herd breeds will naturally remain beside their owner. If your host is agreeable, you may not need a leash, but be sure to check with your host. Take care to know where your dog is every moment, and to be sure it is with you and not disturbing other campers. Be considerate, it will be deeply appreciated by both your host and other campers. It's great to feel at home while camping, but remember in this communal situation, dog owners will have to make some adjustments in their normal routines. You just won't be able to have your dog with you every moment, or running free, while camping.

Restrain your dog at your campsite if you are unable to keep it beside you, such as while doing your horse care chores or other busy work. Not being able to attend to your dog during chore time may complicate things for you or for others. If your dog happens to be the one running through camp with his tongue wagging in the breeze, be prepared for a possible scolding from your host or other campers, and being asked to restrain your dog at camp at all times. It's best to avoid this situation with preventative measures, and it is up to you, the dog owner.

Dogs are not allowed on the trail or course during ACTHA events, so be prepared to have a safe, comfortable place for your dog to stay at your campsite while you are riding.

Be considerate of others and mindful about your environment, it's the best way to enjoy your time with your dog and your horses at camp!
