WARNING: Another Horse Story

but not just any horse....

By Amie Howard

Two years ago my horse, Oh Two Good aka "Goody" was recommended to be put down by a veterinarian due to an injury. Two years later, this same horse, rather than being put down, has achieved a lot.

Nearly 8 months later he appeared sound. I took him to my vet who said she thought he had been misdiagnosed. I asked if I could try to ride him in an ACTHA event, a 6 mile trail ride ridden at your own pace with 6 obstacles. She thought it would be fine to get him in shape enough to ride 6 miles. We entered our first ACTHA CTC and placed 5th. I was so proud of this sweet horse. During his healing time in the pasture, Cody thought it was best for him to become my horse again.

Over the past year Goody and I have achieved our Bronze (50 pts) and Silver (100 pts) medals with ACTHA. Currently we have 114 points in ACTHA that we earned in less than a year with limited rides. Additionally, we won the 2014 High point Halter, Western, and Trail at Pleasant Ridge Arena in our area, and Overall 2014 High point Champion.

For being a semi- retired show horse, Goody has given me so much of his heart. If Cody had not put so much into him I would not have been able to do all we have done in the past year. Goody gets a lot of time off in between his events. I want to Thank my vet Dr. Williamson Reese, DVM, my farrier, Jamey DuBose, and my feed lady, Deb Wallace, who kept Goody healthy enough to achieve these accomplishments.

I bought Goody as a late 2yr old, we rode trails and played at a few shows for nearly 6 years. A friend of mine had seen Goody at my trainer's and knew how good minded he was. She asked if I would sell him. To make a long story short, Goody became Cody Jesse’s new love and they showed for nearly 3 years.

It was at this point that the injury occurred and the dire vet recommendation. I asked if Goody could come live in my pasture to see if it was possible that time off would help him heal.
