In 1998 Heidi was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She promised Keks, when she beat the cancer, she would learn how to teach her in a more humane way. Suffice to say, Heidi beat her cancer and both Heidi and Keks benefitted from her promise.

In 2006 Heidi took her first three day John Lyons clinic at Kenny Harlow’s Cedar Run Ranch in Cumberland, Virginia and found the experience to be just what she was looking for. Knowing Kenny was a graduate of John’s first certification class himself, Heidi enrolled in Kenny’s three week apprenticeship class in 2007. The following year Heidi joined Kenny’s year long certification program where she graduated with her two project horses, Mac and Goldi in 2009. Always looking to further her equine education Heidi and Mac returned to Kenny’s in the fall of 2014 for the Professional Trainers week. As Heidi says, “If I only knew then, what I know now, Keks would have been one great pony.”
