The Great American Trail Horse Festival was held November 5-8, 2015 at the awarded Von Holten Ranch in Mora, Missouri. The event was the first of its kind to be conducted by the American Competitive Trail Horse Association, who is excited to report the endeavor was a tremendous success. Riders attended from more than twenty states across the country, competing in six events over three days. The events consisted of six mile courses with six judged obstacles, as well as arena challenges with eight obstacles per event. Judges consisted of nationally renowned clinicians, trainers as well as volunteers from a variety of equine disciplines and interests. Over $6,000 dollars in cash and prizes were dispersed, made possible in part by a variety of generous sponsors supporting the festival's mission of celebrating the noble trail horse.

The trails were beautiful, complete with fall colors and mild weather. Amidst the rolling hills, deer speckled valleys, tranquil forests and clear streams, participants experienced an exceptional variety of terrain and scenery enjoyed by riders of all ages. A family friendly event, several parents rode with their children who also competed.

The Von Holten Ranch, a family owned Century Farm, is currently owned by David and Brandy Von Holten. Guests consistently remarked what gracious and friendly hosts the family were, and how much they enjoyed the accommodations and trails.

Upon completion of the daily competitions, which were also enjoyed by non-competing 'Buddy Riders', attendees flocked to the arena to enjoy clinics and demonstrations being conducted by some of the nation's most well-known horsemen and women. John Lyons, Michael Lyons, Guy McLean, Scott Purdum and Evon Montgomery were but a few of the incredible list of outstanding clinicians enjoyed by all who attended. To name all who contributed their valuable knowledge and passion for the horse would make for a lengthy list, but all were deeply appreciated and enjoyed.

As the final sunset fell over the weekend's events, all were left with a deep feeling of satisfaction and one big question on their minds, "When and where will the next Great American Trail Horse Festival be held?"
