Horse Camping

Keep it Simple, Enjoy the Ride & Take Time to Relax

Whether you are hauling to a day ride, or spending a full weekend at camp, packing and preparation are not only important parts of the endeavor, but become a finely honed art unique to each individual. Horse camping is a time when traditions are born, traditions that may spark feelings of nostalgia years later, or smiles as you recall "the dunking donut sticks we always used to have at camp every morning". Or the smell of bacon sizzling in the skillet over an early morning fire. These are special times, enjoy them, endulge in the memories being created in your life.

Most Ride Hosts offer meals, be sure to check your ride agenda to see which meals your host offers each day.

your ride agenda to see which meals your host offers each day. By participating in the provided meals, you eliminate much of the otherwise necessary food packing, planning, storage, preparation and clean-up. Regardless, be sure to pack plenty of drinking water and healthy snacks such as granola bars or fruit. It's ok to tuck a snack and drinks in your saddle bags to bring with you on the trail, and maybe even a snack for your horse as well.

Other helpful items to bring along include camping chairs, first aid kit, sun screen and rain gear. A few clothes pins and some line may come in handy as well, you just never know when a chance to swim your horse may present itself!
